After pregnancy loss: emotional support and questions for your follow-up appointment
Today you may need answers, company or simply someone to listen. You do not have to think immediately about another pregnancy for your experience and loss to be recognized.

The short answer
After pregnancy loss, medical follow-up and emotional support address different, complementary needs. You can ask about recovery, available findings and when to review your options. There is no required way to feel and no emotional timetable you must meet before seeking help or deciding what you need next.
Your recovery deserves follow-up
A follow-up appointment can review what happened, which information is available and what care is appropriate in your situation. Ask for clear instructions about expected symptoms, activities and whom to contact with concerns.
Very heavy bleeding, severe pain, fever, fainting or feeling seriously unwell warrant urgent medical attention. An article or contact form cannot replace assessment at that time.

There is no correct way to grieve
You may feel sadness, anger, guilt, relief, confusion or a mixture that is hard to explain. Feelings may change over time or surface around a date, conversation or appointment.
You do not need to be in crisis to seek psychological support. You can talk about what happened, how you feel about your body or everyday situations that now feel different.

Asking for the support you need
With your partner or someone close
Try a specific request: “Today I need you to listen,” “Could you come to the appointment with me?” or “I would rather not try to find an explanation right now.”
With family and friends
You can choose how much to share and with whom. You can also ask a trusted person to communicate your boundaries so you do not have to repeat your experience several times.
Someone else may experience the loss differently. Allowing those differences does not mean your need for company should go unrecognized.
Questions for your next assessment
- What do we know about this loss, and what can we not conclude?
- Do I need any additional tests or follow-up in my case?
- How will I know whether physical recovery is progressing?
- When should we discuss a future pregnancy, if I want one?
- Which records from previous treatment or pregnancies should I bring?
- Where can I receive psychological support?
If you have experienced previous losses, mention them at the start. The complete history helps the team determine the appropriate assessment.

Support at ViaFERT, at your pace
You can request a medical consultation to review your history and a psychology appointment to discuss what you are experiencing. These spaces have different purposes and can complement one another.
ViaFERT’s published psychology consultation costs MXN $1,000. Ask about availability, language and format. You do not need to decide on further fertility treatment before requesting emotional support.

Frequently asked questions
Can my partner and I react differently?
Emotional responses can differ. You can discuss the support you need and seek professional help if communication becomes difficult.
Do I need to try for another pregnancy immediately?
There is no obligation to do so. Medical recovery and your wishes should be discussed with your team; you may also need time to decide.
Can I request psychological support without starting fertility treatment?
Yes. You can request an appointment focused on emotional support and ask about the available format.
Does one loss always reveal its cause?
Not always. Available information and your history determine what can be explained and which tests, if any, are appropriate. Ask the team to distinguish findings from assumptions.
