Ovarian PRP or “ovarian rejuvenation”: evidence, limits and alternatives
Ovarian platelet-rich plasma is an experimental intervention. Current evidence is insufficient to show that it reliably improves egg quality, live-birth rates or IVF outcomes, and it should not be presented as a proven way to reverse reproductive aging.

What is known and what remains uncertain
Proposed approach
PRP prepared from a patient’s blood is injected into ovarian tissue. Protocols, preparation methods, doses and outcome measures vary between studies.
Evidence limits
Published research includes small studies, uncontrolled designs and heterogeneous populations. Improvements in laboratory markers do not necessarily demonstrate more live births.
No guaranteed result
AMH, follicle count or ovarian response can fluctuate. No isolated change proves restoration of egg quality or reversal of age-related reproductive decline.
Questions to discuss before considering an experimental intervention
- What exact clinical question is the procedure intended to answer?
- Which outcome is being discussed: AMH, eggs retrieved, embryos, pregnancy or live birth?
- What evidence applies to people with my age, diagnosis and treatment history?
- What are the procedural, anesthesia, bleeding, infection and cost considerations?
- What alternatives have stronger evidence for my specific objective?
- How will the decision be reviewed if the expected change does not occur?
Alternatives depend on the treatment goal
A careful review may include age, antral follicle count, AMH, ovulation, semen, uterine and tubal factors, previous stimulation, the number of mature eggs, fertilization and embryo development. Depending on the case, reasonable options may include trying without treatment, ovulation management, IUI, IVF, protocol adjustment, fertility preservation, donor eggs, a second opinion or choosing not to pursue an intervention.
